“All roads lead home…but that depends on which way you’re going”

Isaiah 30:21 “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying ‘This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left’.”

Coming back from Morgantown, WV, after visiting with my grandkids one day, I was traveling on Route 68 east.  I was by myself and I sometimes do my best thinking when I’m alone.  This was one of those days.

I always travel 68, then pick up 219 N that will bring me to route 30, and then back home.  It’s a relatively easy route, and I love those easy routes to and from wherever I go.  Looking to the left I can see route 40 a couple times that will come out at the Pilot at the intersection of 219 and 68.  I remember thinking that someday I would take route 40 to Morgantown that will come out around Point Marion and take that route into Morgantown.

As I traveled a little farther I saw the Friendsville exit.  I remember when George and I were coming back from Morgantown and we took that exit that brought us out somewhere near New Centerville.  It was beautiful country through there and I’ve often thought I’d take that route again.  I could also have gone up route 79 and take the Uniontown exit and go home that way.  Or, I could go to Frostburg, MD and pick up route 30 that would bring me right home.

The saying “All roads lead home” came to mind.

In our travels to the beach one year, we had spent the night somewhere on the way down, and finished the trip the next morning.  My granddaughter wanted to ride with me, so the next morning we all headed out.  Madison and I stopped at a fruit market to pick up some stuff to enjoy for the week but when we left, somehow we got off course and could not, for the life of us, find our way back on to the right route.  Even my GPS didn’t know where we were because she kept repeating “RECALCULATING”! After a good 45 minutes of winding around through back roads, detours, and going in circles, I decided to stop at a Quick-Stop shop and see if I could get good directions to bring us back on track.

I must have said a dozen silent prayers, while we were driving through the woods, that God would help us find our way.  The first person I asked was a God-send for sure.  He stated, “Sure! Do you think you can keep up with me?  I’m also going to the beach for fishing.”

I told him I could definitely keep up as long as he went slow enough that I wouldn’t run off the road.  He laughed and said he’d keep that in mind. I stuck to him like Velcro and before we knew it…we on the right road again.

Yes, all roads will eventually lead us to our worldly homes, or the places we need to go.  But…there is only one road, one way, and one Person that can get us to our heavenly home.

There are many people that will tell you, in fact they will insist, that there are many ways to get to Heaven.  Don’t believe them!  They are false teachers who know you want to hear that all your good works and deeds will get you past those pearly gates. John 14:6 tells us the truth, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one (NO ONE) comes to the Father except through me’”.

We can spend days, weeks, or even many years lost and traveling around in circles looking for that one place that can bring us to a comforting, happy, and joyful place of rest.  You can be the most compassionate, kind, helpful, and friendliest person alive but, if you don’t believe and trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior as the ONLY way to Heaven, then you’re on the wrong road.

Yes, all roads lead home…but that depends on which home you’re looking for.  When looking for that Heavenly home, stay away from the detours of the world.  Listen for that voice that says, “This is the way…walk in it”!

Next time you are lost and can’t find your way back on the right path, use God’s GPS…God’s Precious Scriptures”!  They will get you right back where you’re supposed to be.
